Also I don't understand what you mean by. "it's just that this style is high impact very quickly." That makes no sense. From what I gather your trying to say that you can learn BJJ faster than stand up MA's. False again! Fact the majority of UFC fighters are below brown belt level in BJJ! GSP is an example. Average time to attain a BB in BJJ is 8-12 yrs or more! If it takes that long for someone to become proficient at Boxing, Muay Thai, or BJJ, they should find another hobby!

Your statement that ANY style of martial arts prepares a smaller fighter to beat a larger fighter is untrue. TKD and Muay thai are a couple of examples that are contrary to your statement. Furthermore, Matt Hughes is a Blackbelt Level BJJ practioner; therefore, he was on an even keel with gracie, and was just a better fighter, and younger too. The fact remains that all fighters learn BJJ for ground fighting. You cannot compete competively in MMA with out it. Or if you know one name him/her!

ANY style of martial arts. Any style prepares a smaller fighter to beat a larger fighter. The concept of compensating size, strength, and even speed with technique is not exclusive to BJJ. It's just that this style is high impact very quickly whereas stand up styles take a lot longer to get good at and weight is more of a deciding factor. Gracie was great against opponents who had no idea how to defeat his style but when they do, he can't match a well-rounded fighter (matt hughes)

continuation form below..boxing and Muay Thai, or even judo, sambo, vale tudo, etc. Thus, in MMA it boils down to who is the better fighter, since they are all realtively veresed in the most popular and effective MMA styles aforementioned. BJJ is the single most effective MA styles. If a BJJ practioner faces any SINGLE MA style, once they are on the ground they will get tapped, because no other style emphasises the ground like BJJ; this is proven by countless BJJ VS vids on youtube.

BJJ will dominate all other MA's that was proven by the Gracies. The reson why is because boxers and Thai fighters and Wrestlers don't know how to finish a fight when it's on the ground. Taking down a boxer or Thai fighter is easy for an experienced BJJ practioner, once their on the ground all there weapons have been taken away. A wrestler can take BJJ practioner down, but cannot finish, because they have been taught how too. Today's MMA fighters train in several MA discplines BJJ and wrestling.

Bignass, the point of the original UFC was to show the effectiveness of BJJ, which it did with Royce winning the event. Severn was a pure wrestler, yes, but he outweighed Royce by 50 pounds. You tell me of another art that can prepare a smaller fighter to defeat a larger fighter.

As far as self defence goes knowing any martial art is better that knowing nothing at all. Nothing can prepare you for getting jumped by multiple attackers or getting sucker punhed; however, one would have to agree that if you know BJJ or any MA for that matter you have a better chance in a street fight than knowing nothing at all.

that choke escape was a joke. people don't know it until they have actually tried it, but when you pull forward, the pull back, and it takes a lot of training if you want a back leg sweep or something like that. also it's wayyy more technical, you have to bend your knees and he has to be offbalance.i find elbow to the ribs useful |
