Anne (Sally Hawkins) fell deeply in love with handsome young naval officer Frederick Wentworth (Rupert Penry-Jones) at the age of nineteen. But with neither fortune nor rank to recommend him, Anne's family were against the match and persuaded her to break off the engagement. Eight years later, Anne has lived to regret her decision. She never stopped loving Frederick and when he returns from sea having made his fortune and reputation, she can only watch as every eligible young woman in the district falls at his feet. Can Frederick forgive Anne for listening to her family instead of her heart?

I just watch the 1995 version...it was very well done..however I think Rupert Penry Jone nailed it with the intense stares and glances...RPJ is so gorgeous.I lprefer the 2007 version.

Omg! I've also watched the 95 version too and Ciaran Hinds was brilliant, I love him! I would love to see this version and compare but I guess I can't finish this in one sitting. I would have to break once in awhile. The camera running is making me dizzy!

I love these British movies, the acting is so on point IMO.

I like both! The added scenes here are nice (even if slightly unfaithful) but I'm sorry, I just don't quite like the running. I think both casts are great and the breaking of the third wall in this doesn't bother me; I think it's creative actually. I think the 95 version has more of the Austen subtlety to it and Amanda Root is a spot-on Anne even though I do love Sally Hawkins and Penry-Jones is GORGEOUS (always a plus!). So I can't choose! Sorry! I wish I could but it's easier to be indecisive!

Thank you so much for letting me know about the 1971 version... May i ask, of the 1995 and 2007, which adaptation do you prefer?
Psyche2828 (August 8, 2008 at 6:02 am)
"Persuasion" is my favorite too! I recently bought the '71 version and... well, I've always thought the most faithful adaptation would be best but although that version is pretty spot on (running 223 min.), well... it's good but the actors' timing is pretty bad, the setting & costumes resemble a strange mid/late 19th century style, and Ann Firbank looks far older than any of the other women. I liked Bryan Marshall though so don't get me wrong, I did like it despite its flaws. It's worth the buy.

Rupert Penry-Jones is sooo hot and a wonderful actor, I really liked this adaptation.

Oh my goodness! I love the one with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root. I would definitely say it's one of my favorite movies.

"Persuasion" is my favourite Jane Austen novel. This version is not bad, but I prefer the 1995 one with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root (I feel there is more passion)... I have yet to see the 1971 adaptation with Ann Firbank and Bryan Marshall... Could someone please download it? lol... Did anyone see it? Was it good?
