I don't think view people who come from underdeveloped countries as inherintly criminal, I do think that they ought to assimilate or at least learn some of Western culture and bring it back to their homeland. Not everything that is modern comes from Western societies, but much of what was modern medicine, education, gov't, etc. was introduced throughout the world from Europeans.

I think that its a combination of all 3. Poverty influences culture just as laws do. Since culture basically means "learned behavior," many factors shape a person's/people's culture. The Carribean has high crime rates, high poverty, and subpar politics that keep its people poor, uneducated, disobediant, and sometimes even violent. Now imagine what happens when you allow these people to enter a multicultural, ultra-liberal, welfare societies in Europe.

immigrants don't need to change drastically, although sometimes I feel that people expect foreigners to change quickly, which is nonsence. Change as importance as this requires time, sometimes a lot of it.I feel that for Immigrants to assimilate there need to be 2 factors: 1) a tolerant and understanding host nation and 2) peaceful (no criminal record), and open minded immigrants. Sadly, too many bad apples wash ashore in Europe. Sometimes I wonder how good of a background check do they do.

The president must be a Christian while the prime minister must be a Muslim, other political positions also differ; without a division of poli/religious separation, there would be trouble. Come to think of it, Lebanon is know as the Switzerland of the East due to its diversity and wealth. Please look up Confessionalism (politics) in Wikipedia or other sources to learn more.
