Am actually trying to master this technique. Specially when driving a RWD, just slamming the the gearbox to a lower gear would mean disaster!

In performance driving (or racing), you use the brakes to slow down going into the turns. You downshift to be in the right gear (and in the powerband) coming OUT of the turn. The ONLY reason to downshift is to be in the right gear to accelerate out of a turn. This technique enables you to perform the downshift without upsetting the car's balance (possibly causing a spin).

What kind of lotus you got?

I just dont get it...If you arent down shifting to slow down why downshift? If thats the case whats wrong with just putting it in neutral and using your brakes...I'm confused?

I do not understand the double clutch ... what is that good for .. why do you have to let the clutch go to rev match! and then switch ti gear again .. why cant you do that while in gear with clutch pressed?

oops... hazardous at WORST. :)

Ummm... this has nothing to do with being "scared" or "slamming" anything. Performance driving is about precision and balance along with speed. "Slamming" anything during performance driving will be detrimental to your results at best, and hazardous at worse. This isn't the "fast and the furious" BS.

Well idk how much lotus trannys are and why u are scared to down shift but most cars u can slam in and out of gears and never have any tranny problems. Down shifting to slow a car down isnt bad, but when learning standard transmission shouldnt be attempted.

lol downshifting isnt bad unless you do it wrong then you screw up ur tranny and ya u get the point (be experienced enough to drive the car your in before u try stuff like downshifting to slow you down. |
