That is so sad. It kills me to think of him hurt like that. There was never a more beautiful man.

That must of been cool to be a part of that time. Did you go to Altamont, Isle Of White, Monterey Pop, Woodstock? Also who do you think was the biggest act in 69'? Im 40 but was always fascinated by Rock N Roll and the whole movement from the 60's into the 70's.

I was spellbound watching that performance clip at the end where he's singing right to you as if he was naked and shameless...which was basically what he was...so honest and raw.

I'm an old musician, too, and I saw the FBB @ the Aquarius sharing the bill with Bread in the summer of '69. Free show sponsored by A&M. I don't think the FBB were playing out until after the 1st record came out in early '69. Gram was so heckled by the rock crowd for his clothes and sequin heeled boots, that he dropped his tele to the stage and walked off in the middle of a song. I saw him backstage and his face was lined with tears.

You're probably right. I just find the "new" country music to be boring and without depth. I probably would have liked it when I was in high school. Bluegrass and Alt Country are gaining in popularity, so I think the whole country "thing" is coming around again. Personally I enjoy bluegrass... my banjo playing teen got me into that genre.Take care.

If that were true then that's what the stations would be playing. They're driven by money. Your crowd isn't spending the money on music that the younger demographic is. It's about money, period.

My ass. the current country crowd is the old easy listening crowd.

Amen! Gram the poet! Too bad he couldn't put down the tequila and heroin to live longer and give us more truths. He was the original alt country guy. We love you Gram!

I doubt the current country audience is dumbed down. In fact if it were researched I bet the audience is far more educated than it ever was. What the current country crowd IS now that it wasn't back then is younger there are a lot more female buyers. They're not as much into sad songs. They like upbeat and positive songs. Emmylou helped that happen. |
