Anyone agree he has a "Jussi Bjoerling-ish" similarity about his phenotype?

One of my favourite arias but not particularly happy with the tenor. I guess Fritz Wunderlich spoiled me.

You guys... anybody can sing Tamino. That's the point! Lohengrins and Almavivas, we all get to sing Tamino. Which you voices you like in it is a matter of taste and, historically, somewhat trendy according to the times.

Um, yeah, some full lyrics sing it, but a transitional role for Heldentenors?!?!
Toreadorssong (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Disagree about the leggiero. Tamino is a full lyric role and is often used as a transitional role for heldentenors. A leggiero lacks the depth to bring out the nobility of the character and the highest note is an A. Different from Ferrando which is unusual in Mozart´s writing for Tenors. Yes some Leggieros who thought themselves fuller (e.g. Francisco Araiza) have done it. But that is more the exception than the rule. Beczala is a classic Tamino voice and he does remind one of Wunderlich ! |
