SVS set the standing mile record in Oct 2007 at the maxton mile driving a modified Viper GTS bought off the showroom floor. To date 231.666 still holds the record. We ripped 5th gear out of the T56 running at Maxton in 2006 and then again at Goliad in 2006. Search for SVS TTRS

I guess you're making power if you rip the gears off the trans at speed while shifting into 5th....!

If memory serves me correctly the viper and the autobahn supra are the only ones that have a chance at breaking the standing mile record. I think the supra holds it at around 229mph? Correct me if i'm wrong.

yeah...I wonder if competition German cars (Brabus Merc, Ruf Porsche etc.) are any more reliable than their American counterparts

Well, I guess you kind of have to compare apples to apples. This was a Competition Coupe Viper, not a street version, and the transmissions in these cars are notorious for being junk. I race a GTS (1996-2002) Viper and 5th gear has broken on me several times, and I am at the stock power level. The Bugatti is in a different galaxy. All these guys are trying to do is set a record.

Here's a good example of how the Bugatti Veyron is an overall better car than any tuned viper. Although it may be slower and much more expensive, the transmission won't break if you floor it...
