The US Postal Service thought this video was worthy of a commemorative stamp this year. The usual Jordan routine of this song had mom telling son to put her down, to which he replies "She weighs 300 pounds. I can't put her down. I can't pick her up!" A 1973 version had him goad Caldonia to drink more with rhymes like "Drink a little beer & spread good cheer, drink a little whisky and get frisky, pull off your turban and drink a little bourbon, drink a little vodka and do what you ought not ta."

How can this guy be so overlooked? Willie Nelson does the tune (sounded good until this version) on the new album with Wynton Marsalis. A reviewer says, of course Willie couldn't be expected to repeat the notorious last line of the original. What exactly was the line--"what makes your big head so hard?" If so, am I missing something? All I get from it is "Why are you so proud and cold, woman?"

I think that's because they're backed up by an orchestra.

You can't just not LOVE this! One thing I'm "iffy" about is when he starts dancing towards the end and you can still hear the horns, but the trumpet player and other tenor sax player aren't playing. Hmm...

Rock 'n Roll avant la lettre. We all agree, and we all love it!
