There is some fantastic amusing and sharp satirical critisism of capitalism and communism in this film that is totally unforgettable. A major experience of the 20th century film history.

It is all symbolic of many things. Studying the Cold War will help.

Reading "Story of the Eye" by Bataille might be helpful in understanding the symbolic significance of the egg as eye as reproductive device, and the sexual metaphors that follow.

because the directors seems to be obsessed with a number of fetishes in this movie. this one is known as sploshing in which individuals rub food all over there bodies to get aroused. This fetish is later repeated twice in the film at the dinner at the commune and the end when miss mondie caress herself in chocolate. hope that was of some help.
