They are obviously giving a bebop nod to the fact they are performing in Brazil, there is a lot a great Latin grooves used in the bebop repertoire but they are not trying to do genuine bossa - just having fun with a medley...

uh? Jobim and Gilberto "adapted" yankee music? uh? What's wrong with you? Bossa Nova does NOT come from Jazz, for God's sake. If both have rich harmonies is because they have the same influence: the music of composers like Debussy, for instance. Jobim was writing that kind of music at the same time U.S. composers were writing theirs and they were all influenced by the music of that time. This is the only similarity on them. Bossa Nova is not an adaptation of any other kind of music. Shhh!

I love Ella Fitzgerald to death but this doesn't have the bossa nova chill swing which is the whole point of listening to bossa nova.

I like Ella, but I don´t like Bossa Nova in 4/4. Where is the brazilian Groove, the soul of Bossa Nova?

Also the biggest influence on Brazilian Samba, Bossa Nova, Samba, is purely African, the rest follows! There is absolutely no European influence! |
