You so called single malt purists, please please please do not look down on blended whiskies. Many blended whiskies are wonderful everyday drinks (and a few belong to the aristocratic league) just like the French and Italians have their everyday wines or Chinese their everyday tea. Before the introduction of single malt, blended whiskies were the drinks of the choice and rightly so. Grain whiskies are made from corn/maize and distilled using the more effecient continuous stills and they are mainly distilled in and near Glasgow. Famous traditional blends are many such as Johnnie Walker, Famous Grouse, Stewart Cream of the Barley, J & B, Black & White, Teacher's...The teacher's has a volatile sweet grainy nose, old sherry wood and a hint of peat. The spirit while moderately complex, is friendly and easy to understand. Sweet corn and malt with a hint of smoke and peat. Very well balanced and revitalising. A superb all round sipping blend. (Rating 83-85 points) by Michael Lam of the Beverage Review.

I think teacher's is probably one of the best blended scotchs out there which is reasonably priced.

Great whisky, but it is a lot better if u mix it like this:Whisky Ammaretto (aka godfather):1 part dissaronno orginale (maybe a bit more but not too much as the drink can become to syrupy)2 parts teachersPut it in a drinking glass with 3 ice cubes stir it a bit (you could use a theespoon). Enjoy.

Yes, Oban 14 is indeed a classic. One of my favorites. Not really a typical Highland scotch in my opinion. Thanks for your whisky tastings. Please do more!

I had all the names you mentioned in the past - there are different McClellands and they are, as you say, good for the price range. I used to live on the Famous Grouse when I was a poor student! Oban 14 is a classic - need to get hold of a bottle soon from Alberta (40% cheaper because of tax).

Nice to see someone taste an affordable blended Scotch. I've enjoyed watching your tastings. Have you tried any of the ~$20 McClelland's single malts? They're really quite nice for the price. They're NAS but I would guess they're maybe 5 yo? I'd like to see you taste The Famous Grouse and Oban 14yo in the future. Thanks!

Micheael,Love your reviews! You have taught me so much. I've been looking for Teacher's locally but having a bit of a hard time finding it. Anyway, thanks for all your wonderful insight. By the way, that video of you and your son doing the beer review was priceless!

I am a whiskey noobie - maybe 10 months or so. I recently finished a bottle of this and I thought it was really good. I'd put it behind JWB and way ahead of the Red. I just opened a Macallan 10y fine oak.

Pretty good stuff. Fair quality, traditional, honest and unpretentious...the price is right!
