John Barrowman happens to be gay. It's not a bad thing at all, but it's true. By me saying that he pulls off a very believable straight man is a compliment in this situation seeing as his character happens to be straight. I have absolutely no problem with homosexuality at all, I'm a huge supporter, myself. I didn't expect there to be so much misunderstanding, people thinking that my comment is an insult, so I apologize if I worded it in an unclear way.

He pulls of a very believable straight man? How is that not stereothypic? And why is it a compliment that he sings like a straight man? How can his sexual orientation possibly make any difference? I´m sorry, but I really don´t get you..

You have a point, I don't mean to stereotype people by their orientation at all I'm just saying that he pulls off a very believable straight man. Which is a compliment, although I'm not his biggest fan.

femininity and manliness don't determine sexual orientation a man can be straight and feminine and a man can be stereotypically "manly" and be gay

I read that Sondheim says Barrowman's performance in the Kennedy Center "Company" is his favoriter. That's pretty good praise, huh? BTW, I saw Barrowman on the ComicCon Torchwood panel 2 weeks ago and he sang for us!!! Dreamy.

love that voice, i can't get over it. makes me sigh, and sink into the chair and just stare at his eyes till it's done. ahhhh. oh john, i'd marry you in a heartbeat!

Because a lot of the time, especially in community theater, the lead male happens to be gay. And a lot of the time, it sounds really odd with the character. Like in a Sweeney Todd production I saw, the guy was like "thesssse are my friendssss" and I mean, he had a good voice but couldn't pull off a believable straight man. I'm not trying to stereotype gays at all, I'm merely saying Barrowman pulls it off very well.

Why on earth would a gay person not be able to act like a straight person, and vice versa? I'm sorry but that comment made absolutely no sense :S |
