This is my sempi and me fighting using kenjutsu style instead of sports kendo. This is the real kendo you can be lucky if you see. I am the one in dark blue. he wears white to show his rank. he has practiced kendo and serious hyoho niten ichi ryu kenjutsu for about 9 years.

I was under the impression that kenjutsu was the Nipponese martial art dealing with the use of the sword (nodachi), although many kenjutsu schools also practiced techniques with the jitte, bo, and 'empty-hand' techniques, including karate.I could be wrong, but that is how I understand it. And you are correct, in true kenjutsu you would have to be capable of using every weapon at your disposal, just as we soldiers today are required to learn how to use every weapon available to us. God bless.

I can't agree that Kendo is not a pure 'sport'. kendo is half sport and half martial arts base. Kendo has the concept and spirit of warrior. I also cannot see how you express what kenjutsu is. If you are expressing kenjutsu, i believe you can punch or kick your partner because it is about live or death. why don't you use the topic like niten kenjutsu instead of niten Kendo sparring kenjutsu. do u really know what is kenjutsu.

well i just figure if you can kick their ass with a shinai you can do it with a sword. because the way these guys are fighting they wouldnt be likely to even touch a good kendoka.

As stated before, it's not kendo. It's kenjutsu. Kendo is the sport many know, but the idea behind kendo is that it is a 'sport', although most from Nippon will not call it such. Kenjutsu is the study of the way of wielding a blade in combat, NOT simply going for points. Doing it in kendo equipment probably cuts back on the amount of welts/bruises/scratches that come from using shinai in practice. God bless.

I think it was already established that this was not meant as the sport of kendo. It was training kenjutsu in kendo equipment. As I seem to recall reading from others who are experienced in formal kendo, getting whacked by a shinai hurts like hell, so if you are not in a match, but rather looking to test the techniques of kenjutsu with shinai, it makes sense to have protection, doesn't it? God bless.

Your probably think of sports kendo rather than kenjustu, they aren't really the same.
