This is one of Bob's greatest songs. Absolutely incredible lyrical images, and I love the way he sings it. If I may paraphrase another song of his, "You're gonna make me lonesome when you go, Bob." (assuming you go before I do...)

Yes he rejected it publicaly, because he was smart enough to realise he would have wound up dead very quickly. But in these lyrycs and also in the rest of the songs on Infidels.There is an underlying message to Humanity. Such as "Be afraid as a great Evil is once again spreading its shadow across the globe"
