its true. maynard makes all his lyrics completely ambiguous to generate an air of mystery about them, and this is very succesful.... i mean look at all the fans out there trying to decipher them and give meaning to them.... the lyrics are as deep and as intelligent as the fan wants them to be.

I would agree, everyone tries to decipher their lyrics and find secret messages and all this baloney. But honestly, I don't think their lyrics are supposed to have any secret meaning or are supposed to make sense, they are what they are. They mean something different to everyone. I don't really pay attention to every single word, I just like how his lyrics always fit right with the music. To me, Maynard is another instrument, without him the music would feel incomplete.

This song is clearly comparing and contrasting the lives of Jesus christ to that of the Father of Scientology, Ron Hubbard. Thank you.

I've been a huge Tool fan for over 15 years now. To be honest with you - their lyrics are nonsensical. In fact, there is a video interview with Maynard somewhere on YouTube (I'm to lazy to find it and post the link) which Maynard states that his lyrics do not, and are not supposed to, make sense. He believes, correctly - I think, that lyrics mean something different to everyone who listens so why bother to focus on the lyrics and instead focus on the melody. So there it is. Tool kick ass! |
