HBO held a contest asking New Yorkers to submit interesting true stories that happened on the subways. The winning stories were then adapted for the film. "Sax, Cantor, Riff" was written and directed by Julie Dash, Featuring Taral Hicks (singer), Kenny Garrett (saxaphone), Dan Rous (Cantor) and Sam Rockwell. Produced by Jonathan Demme and Rosie Perez.

this is the most amazing scene. the way everyone stops what they are doing. how her pain permeates throughout the station. It hurts and inspires at the same time.

This was unbelievable, I remember seeing this on HBO and I was mesmerized. Not only is she pretty but she has REAL talent. It's such a shame we are force fed the likes of Rihanna and Cassie when there are women who can sing like this.

I remember I saw this too when it first came out, and she had me feeling like I was losing my father all over again. Id been trying to tell people about it especially when Belly came out and they had NO IDEA what I was talking about...I felt crazy like I was the only person to have seen it, then never again. I love you for posting this...I still get goose bumps and tearyed..Oh, I want to see, to see my Father! I want , I want to See......Sing It Taral.....!
