November 2007To believers, Nepal's child goddesses or Kumaris can bestow luck with a glance. But when these children grow up, returning to normal life is virtually impossible.Girls selected as Kumaris must be aged between two and four and satisfy all the conditions of '32 perfections'. For a few short years, "all Nepalese people worship them" states one woman. But as soon as they experience their first menstruation, they lose their goddess status.

Just try to respect their traditions..Yes, it must be really sad to grow in isolation and be locked up in a temple, but it is what it is.. it's a divine thing for them and a century's old tradition so, y criticize?

all religions arebut you gotta understand how miserable the people in that sort of economy would be if they didnt have something to look forward to

To me its a pointless religion. Rob them of their child hood, then get rid of them when they are in their teens. What a waste. I can see why allot of these people run away to the USA and other countries, only to ignore their religion and live like American idiots. You should see how slutty Indian girls are when they get here VS how they are in their own country. They'll suck you just as good as any white blond whore would.

Never was interested in religious beliefs. Some of them are so odd and strange. Others just look like a far cry for world wide attention. You never hear about other religions on the net being popular like these religions in countries like India. They worship a white rat too. One can only wonder how many damn GODs and Goddesses do these people need? Yet when things happen to their cities they're not crying out to their own GOD for help.

Its best to be educated before making comments. Some foreigners find the fact that people hug each other to be a disgusting thing. Respect other cultures as you would like your culture to be respected.

she should be able to behave normally in the privacy of her palace, even our president is allowed that much :p But she is very beautiful, it is a unique tradition.

thats messed up, keeping a little kid locked up indoors like that, at that age you should be running around having fun with friends. Sitting around all day doing nothing will ruin the child's social skills and health. I'm sorry but this is a big load of bull crap.

agreed it could be better, like many other things in the world, but she does get to play w/ other kids and gets an education unlike many other cultures. thats more than they recieved in earlier times. in many cultures women are treated like dogs, female organs being cut and deformed, unable to get educated and do better for them selves. granted it my be hard later on, I feel for her. But understand, ppl have strong beliefs. look at me in any other culture i could be killed for speaking my mind.

I think it's a tradition that could be adapted into a form less abusive to kids... They could still have kumari, but she should be allowed to speak, play, and walk, like other children... It's not my religion, but I do think it would be much better if that was the case.
