It seems to me the movie apacalypto was about the aztecs and not the Mayans. Am I missing something here or was that movie actually about aztecs?

They were about as advanced as the Egyptians, probably less. Yet their empire was much, much later.It's a good thing Cortez came, firstly, he stopped the savage slaughter of people, secondly, he bought technology and the modern age to that portion of South America.

i think the fact of being one of the most advanced civilizations in the americas and having a better understnding of the heavens and making some of the seven wonders of the world makes us proud, the scrafice is just one aspect of the culture!
