Dont get me wrong though - big companies who use every trick in the book to make every last dime, DESERVE this kind of hardline attitude. But its not use cannibalising the 'amateurs' in the profession, because one day you'll be dead and they'll be the pros. Thats just the way it goes. The companies take the piss, and for that, they deserve a real fucking riot. But don't rag at your own kind. What, haven't you ever written something just for the hell of it? What about all these comments?

If the pro's are being undercut by "so many goddamn writers out there with no idea that they're supposed to be paid", shouting about it isn't going to change it. Nor is acting pretentious. Art's always going to draw a really fine line between hobby and craft. Loads of people write in their spare time and don't even want to be published for it. Plenty get published for it despite being shit anyway.

not what I'm getting at. You say its a craft, and I agree. But I also think its a craft that is NOT exclusive. Lets face it, it doesn't take that much to write. You could get 10 people to write something about the same topic, and you'd get 10 original pieces of work. Not of the same standard, obviously, but you'd get 10 different pieces of work that would all, potentially, find their niche in the market.
