Das. I've done some study on the perception of music to small children. If a child hears music that is clear and precise in melody, they easily emulate what they hear. If they hear music that is lacking in melodic precision, they struggle to make sound. They mumble in an arbitrary way. The fascinating thing is, as children, in a natural way, they tend to make melodic corrections to what they hear. However, the more bad music they are exposed to, the less ability they have to make corrections.

oh yes, and it was nice to hear that Coldplay isn't "real, real bad". hah. I am in love with their song "Clocks". I could write books about how much I love it.

I know! It was so sad how much heart and effort Richard put into the band and how little recognition he got. Not that Karen didn't deserve it...but it would have been nice if they were regarded more as a team than as Karen and her brother. Okay, I'm sorry theses comments are getting really random. hah. Thanks for the stimulating convo.

Dak. Yep. Karen Carpenter was just a gem. Her brother and his musical skill made that band happen. Music is a lost art. It really is. However, I have heard a little bit of music in the last year. I was surprised and delighted. Not great, but it was music. As far as Cold Play goes, they have good texture using the tone of their instruments and good structured vocal phrasing. Rhythm units and structure is lacking big time. Vocal pitch is off too. Which is typical today. Not "real real" bad though.

I totally agree that children are motivated by sight nowadays. Now all you need is a cool wardrobe and a pretty face to get listeners. |
