Sony Ericsson K790a Bad Joystick

The phone goes through fits -- where pushing in the downward motion on the joystick doesn't register. You can hear the joystick physically clicking, but it often doesn't register they down in the phone's OS.If I push hard enough in the downward motion on the joystick, it usually works, but its very annoying when texting because on this phone you must push down to select the next word for T9.All other directions work perfectly on this joystick.Spraying compressed air into the joystick seems to help for, but only for a short time. If you google for K790 or K800 joystick problems you can find other people having this problem with this phone. People say the problem lies in the fact dust gets trapped inside the joystick, causing this problem. The strange thing is the problem is always with the "down" direction.I've already sent the phone in for repair once but they did nothing but upgrade the firmware, which changed nothing with regards to the joystick. I wish this had happened within the first 30 days of owning the phone so I could have just returned it, but the problem started happening around 45 days into owning the phone.This joystick is the same as on the K800i, K800a and K790i.
