in response to rivethead134, breakbeat is a term that describes the way the beat in genres such as hip-hop, breaks, drum and bass etc,is broken into 4/4 time, the term originally comes from the part of a jazz song where the song breaks to allow the rhythm to continue, unaccompanied. This break is essentially looped over and over in drum and bass, its just at different tempo's for different genres really. music like house and trance have a steady beat..but d&b etc dont
