Tribu, won the "Pari de l'Avenir" (Bet for the Future) award at the Paris Cinema Festival, July 2008.the Philippine's official entry to the Fribourg Int'l Film Festival, the 58th Berlin Film Festival, the 11th PUSAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (New Currents section).Cinemalaya 2007's Best Film, Best Actors (Ensemble Actors of Tondo) and Best Sound (Mark Laccay). Executive Producers: Dodge Dillague / Mitch Moreno. Written and directed by Jim Libiran. Starring real life Tondo gang members.SYNOPSIS: The dangerous unlit streets and labyrinthine alleyways in the ghetto district of Tondo in Manila, serves as a claustrophobic backdrop to a random killing that triggers a wild and bloody gang war.Through the eyes of a 10 year old boy, we are immersed into the normal, impoverished, tough life of Tondo. Through him, we encounter the juvenile yet murderous leaders and members of various gangsta tribes -- adolescent thugs and petty criminals whose past time is sex, drugs and their eloquently poetic street rap, delivered in their own unique tongue-twisting machine gun-style.Also starring: Jamir Garcia (of Slapshock), Ira Marasigan, Malou Crisologo, Dice & Hi C (Mobbstarrs), Loonie & Ron (Stick Figgas), God's Will, Faye Martel, Vim Nadera, Teo Antonio, Rey Guevarra Javier, Charena Escala.

I'm sorry but I don't think you know enough facts to conclude that the director is stupid. These Tondo gangs happen to be real, and they really need every bit of help they can get from people like you and me so they can be transformed into peaceful, productive citizens of this country. Whether similar gangs exist in other parts of the world is beside the point. I'm sure kahit sa Vatican City meron ring halang ang kaluluwa...

What was shown in the film is only one part of the story. The second part is what happened as a result of making the film - and this is going to make you proud - the film brought warring groups working together and now they have found peace. From being among the scum of the earth, most of these youngsters are now productive citizens and some of them have blossoming careers in the music industry. This is what makes "Tribu" a real winner.
