This is an interesting song. In college, there was a professor who was fond of saying --"This poem is built like a brick shithouse, it can't be misread". Of course, we all did.Whenever I hear this song, though, I remember those words.Musically, it is virtually identical to a Stephen Foster song called "Gentle Annie". Check it out---same chords, same huge interval in the melody. Also check out Fogelberg's, "Longer Than". Something soothing about that progression. Lovely.

Fantastic song but one of the few Beatles songs where I believe a cover version (by Emmylou Harris) is superior.Would appreciatesomeone posting that if possible.
