they both have cheated on eachotherand its caused them both so much pain.she has wasted herself away, and has nothingleft to give (hence the head). he wants her still but she resists because shes scared. (him struggling to get the string) she gives in and feels safe and at ease with her decision, and then his love shatters her once again and for the last time. shes broken and unfixable. my interpretation, never the lessthis is an amazing song and damien rice is incredible (:
