King Pleasure's version included vocals by Blossom Dearie as well as instrumental contributions from Teacho and Band.Other artists who later released renditions of the song include George Benson, Aretha Franklin, Queen Latifah, Quincy Jones, Tito Puente, Amy Winehouse and Georgie Fame. The TONY award-winning musical Jersey Boys featured the song. The song also has been featured on an episode of The Cosby Show, as well as in an early 1990's Gap television commercial. In 2006, American Idol contestant Elliott Yamin remade the song. His version appears on the album American Idol Season 5: Encores. This version just missed the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number one on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart. The lyrics are often incorrectly attributed to King Pleasure because he was the first to record it.However, some sources report that when Pleasure was asked to write more lyrics to solos he confessed that he had not written this one.He had heard Jefferson perform it in a jazz club some years before and asked permission to reproduce it.James Moody later hired Jefferson to come on the road with him.Jefferson also appears on several recordings with Moody (...)"..

King Pleasure recorded it first but he learned it indirectly from Eddie Jefferson. The actual lyrics were written by Irving Taylor who was Eddie's tap dance partner in Chicago in 1942.

This is one of the most romantic songs ever written..and I usually don't care for George Benson's singing (would MUCH rather hear him 'whup' that guitar!), but even his voice could not mess up this song! :-) lol It sounds like toward the end he is immitating what he may have done on his guitar to finish the song too.

Whether it's just strumming on his guitar or singing and scatting on stage, George Benson is definitely a musical force to recognize. He's the consummate all-around performer in jazz, R&B and pop music.

Yes....the song was 'originally' played by James Moody, BUT the reason it is called "Moody's Mood For Love" is simply the fact that it was based on the chord changes for "I'm in the Mood For Love." The words were added after the song was played "originally" by James Moody. Not sure, but King Pleasure may have added the words. Everyone is right....this song is captivating and underscores the genius of modern jazz.
