What I mean is if you are used to Windows XP or Mac, then you will find it slightly different. And if you're not too good at computers, maybe also find it more difficult as Linux is less point-and-click when it comes to installing software etc.But if you want to, give it a try. You might prefer it. It's just a matter of choice.

Well, the foundation of OS X is Darwin, AKA BSD Unix, which is in fact Open Source, just as Linux is.It's true though that Microsoft is a closed shop.

The iMac line has never been focused on upgrades, that's true. The whole concept is making it easy, not making it upgradeable. But still, all iMacs let you upgrade your RAM, etc. My MacBook Pro has an upgradeable video card, part of why I decided on that model. It's a pity there's no room in a laptop to put in a ZIF socket to upgrade the processor, but laptops are very tightly designed.

That isn't exactly true. Linux is very easy to use, most people are just used to Windows or Mac OS. Doesn't make Linux harder, makes it different.

my ubuntu on a P4 3.00ghz, 1gb ram, win xp dual boot keeps crashing when im in firefox. at first it will refresh the monitor, and then the monitor goes black and keeps refreshig and eventually goes to the ubuntu login screen. Why is this? i remeber when i intalled ubuntu i heard an error beep at the end of the install but it seemed to carry on intalling fine and it does work but just does this all the time? any ideas?

Not with a majority of makes on the market; for example, my father has two iMacs which the monitor and computer are built into the same case. There is no way you can put a new card in there.

You might want to look into Ubuntu. It works quite well. I've been using it for about 4 years now.

Linux is not quite easy enough for most people's every day use, yet.
