Rostropovich was and is the best cellist that ever walked the earth. Not to say that Pablo Casals was horrible, I appreciate his playing as I do Maisky's. No one however, can match his talent and grace. It's magical when he plays. The closest thing we have now is Yo Yo Ma, and even he, the best cellist alive in my opinion, cannot and will not match Rostropovich. It is a shame that I never had a chance to meet him before he died. That's what I get for being lazy. Rest in peace master...
