Art of the Western World 7 - A Fresh View: Impressionism and Post impressionism 2/6
Impressionism and Post-Impressionism deals with the art which arose from the artistic anarchist period in French Art, where the initial stirring in the art of realism went against academic guidelines on what was considered right and wrong in art, to a form of expression which was not only beautiful to the artist , but also relevant in that period to the artist. This anarchist attitude towards academically accepted art would finally culminate in the formation of Impressionist art, an art which captured the essence of the object in detail as opposed to the object itself. Through the use of vibrancy, colour and undefined objects, this art more than being a reflection of the object was a reflection of not just the soul of the object but that of the artist, revealing the personal perspective of the object from the viewpoint of the artist. This trend on what art is would continue in the 20th century and continues to this day .Features the art of artists from Courbet to Van Gogh.
