Yeah in the movie, but in real live U-96 was sunk by US bombs while in the submarine pens in Wilhelmshaven on march 30, 1945. In her entire career, U-96 suffered no casualties to her crew.

no they don't, they make it back to port and get bombed... most of the crew die, including the captain, and the boat sinks at its moorings.
