Glad you enjoyed it! I looked up the term "sticky left hand" in the Dictionary of Musical Terms but was unable to find it...Seriously, my use of a slight legato approach to the left hand figure is intended to produce more of a "bluesy groove." You won't find that term either in the DMT.

very observant, but this was a choice. I happen to prefer incorporating the dominant 7th and 9th tones in the IV7 chord-it gives the harmony more bite....quite often I refer to original versions as a guide and do not always feel that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

It's good, but the bass should change DOWN on the 5th bar not up! Listen to Meade.

Great version!!! Although I think you're playing with a bit of a "sticky left hand" if you know what I mean. A little more staccato would be nice, although very hard, I know. Love your right hand, really fantastic. Don't mind Ashepp's comments.

Fantastic!! You're one of the few man can play this song in the world!! Congratulations!!!

Thank you...Sometimes it takes a whacky, arhythmical(sp?)group of rowdies to breathe new life into a classic original rendition by the great Meade Lux Lewis. Generally I leave the recreationist banner to others and attempt to explore new ideas. Long live boogie woogie in any form!

Those "improvisational passengers" you took on damn near ran the whole train off the tracks! They completely wiped out the spirit and mission of the train trip. What a whacky, arhythmmical group of rowdies!

Thank you for your observation: the train had to make an unscheduled stop to pick up improvisational passengers before it could continue on its journey to the final cadence.

The improvisation is very good, and perhaps it's a result of Honky Tonk Train being such a popular/standard song, but I feel as though the pounding treble gets worn out by the 2:30-3min mark, and by prolonging the song with solos it detracts from the authenticity of the "train sound." More of a mental block than a musical issue. Other than that, terrific. |
