A beautiful & victorian song from the "pseudo-classical, hard-core, 'positive-goth', cello-rock" band Rasputina. The song is called "Girls' School" and it's from the album "Frustration Plantation"... Enjoy!Lyrics:A happy start, a sad, sad endingfor every minute of the storySee as their wills are broke and bendingSee the good girls in their gloryA primary academy, we're a secondary seminary teachingfinishing rinse, and dancing tips and scornAlways concerned with plummeting virginity ratesWe lecture young girls on how babies are bornChildren! make a chainOh, children! make a chainThe staff here is severe, yet so altruisticIt hurts us more than it hurts themThe new girls are tender, the old ones sadisticThe late janitress was a gemDon't believe what the boys from next door heardRequirements do include math(A happy start, a sad, sad endingfor every minute of the story)We draw straws and put our best foot forwardDown the straight and narrow pathListen to our pretty song, we are happy as the day is longForget the things you thought you knew,we'll make a very good girl of youListen to our pretty song, we are happy as the day is longForget the things you thought you knew,we'll make a very good girl of youA pupil transferred here from Lavender LakeShe wrote a winning essay on self-denialSome underage urchins were forced to matriculate, their records kept here undefiledA neat retreat slips through their fingersWhich little girl made the plan?Surely involved were the vespers bell-ringersDown a ladder, through the gate, then they ran!Listen to our pretty song, we are happy as the day is longForget the things you thought you knew,we'll make a very good girl of youListen to our pretty song, we are happy as the day is longForget the things you thought you knew,we'll make a very good girl of youAnd the girls ran out of the schoolyard and up the hill behind."I'm scared!" said the littlest one."Don't worry." said the leader."They could catch us, or they could kill us,but they can never crush our spirit!"

I wonder that now too, though it only came together for me on re-watching the movie last week when I was really struck by the similarities between the look of the film and the band in the earlier years. Interesting to think about!

Ms. Creager looks exactly like the main blond girl from Hanging Rock. Ever since I saw the movie I've been wondering if that's where Melora got the inspiration for an all-female ensemble that wore only white, like the school uniforms. Wish I knew...

I like that. "Positive-goth" Honestly, isn't that genius? I'm only saying cause most adults that live in my house look at goth in a "negative" way.

That's very kind of you to say. "Picnic at Hanging Rock" is indeed an amazing film. I love how eerie it is, especially because nothing is ever really explained; it's left up to us as the viewer to theorise and fit the pieces together. The way the landscape, including the rock itself, is shown to be so alive & hostile to the people of the time who haven't a hope of understanding it is really well done. I think the film's aesthetic really lends itself to Rasputina's style too.P.S. Absolutely!

It is indeed. And in my opinion, Australian films are way, way better than ANYTHING hollywood produces. "Picnic at Hanging Rock" is an incredibly haunting film; one of MANY that Australia has proven to the world to be superior story telling, although it's true.P.S.Rasputina rules!

Can someone help me out? Today I was watching the old classic Australian film "Picnic at Hanging Rock" and in the first few minutes Kirsty Child's character Miss Lumley shouts: "Girls! Girls!" and claps her hands and it sounds exactly like the sample in the start of this song. Is this film where that sample comes from? I thought that would be very cool if so. I didn't realise "Picnic at Hanging Rock" was really known outside of Australia.
