they are the exact kind of species in australia... introduced by the english in the late 1700's i believe they where bought here as a sportfish just like the common rabbit and hare... purely for sport...i am coming to the uk late 2009 and i would be more than happy to go fishing with you and target carp... (just for the record the largest murray cod ever caught was 183 cms long and weighed over 100 kgs (200 + pounds??)) i have a 60cm specimen in a 5 foot tank.. want videos posted of it feeding?

Well untill youve come to England or Ireland or western europe to catch our kind of carp, maybe then your opinion might change, ive caught 25kg mekong catfish and arapaima and i would still rate the common carp very high in fighting stakes, you obviously hate them like the americans as they were imported and distributed wrong yes? This didnt happen over our side of the world, they arent so widespread in our rivers and they have adapted and settled in perfectly, im sure your cod fights hard too.

no im talking about the common european carp... its the only species of carp in australia and to be honest everything about them is shit... their taste their fighting ability their diet (we target them with bread)...if you think they are good fighters you should seriously invest in an australian fishing holiday and hook up a 60cm 5 kg cod and compare its fighting ability to 60cm 7kg carp...you wont be dissapointed

They must be another strain of carp, there are loads of strains, im talking about a 20lb wild common carp, shaped properly with a torpedo shape and a good few years old, not a young over fed mirror carp with a big belly, a 3lb test curve rod and 15lb test line (7kg)Such a fish will pull you all over the place and snag you or unhook itself against the bottom or weed etc. No i havnt been fishing in Australia, ive lost more carp on the fight than any other fish, all fish fight on the bank also.

im sorry i have to strongly disagree have you ever been fishing in the murray river in australia?? i doubt it... these carps fight like shit and feel like your pulling in a a brick... on the other hand the australian native species such as the mighty murray cod (also one of the worlds most aggressive fish) and troutcod fight even when they are on the bank... ive had a 23cms troutcod fight alot harder than a 60cm european carp...
