johnny has a whammy pedal that is he used throughout the bends and ok computer eras, but yes he's just pulling on the string to get that sound. i can do that, but my string doesn go to the same pitch as his does when i do it.

no jonny doesn't use a whammy he just puts pressure on and off the string really quicki can do it on my gibson les paul haha

I just tried it on my tele and I could do it to,as you pull the string away from the fretboard the tension on the string presses it onto the neckpickup which basicly works as a fret,from then you can bend it to play different notes...but that's how I do it jonny probally has a special trick for it and I think he uses wahmmy to.

He has a small piece of metal sticking out near the bridge end of his fretboard that he hooks the string around and bends about. As bennyboy said, it basically acts like another fret.

actually think he's uses thinner gauges,makes it easy to pull the string away from the fretboard,voz they're more flexible compared to heavier gauge strings.

Not sure. Maybe larger gauge (or however you spell it) strings
